Personalized LGBTQIA+ mental health treatment at Charlie Health
How does Charlie Health’s virtual IOP treat LGBTQIA+ clients?
Charlie Health’s virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured, compassion-focused care designed specifically for LGBTQIA+ clients. More comprehensive than traditional weekly therapy, our program offers inclusive treatment that recognizes the unique challenges of the LGBTQIA+ community.
With a safe, supportive space to explore their experiences, clients can build resilience, strengthen self-acceptance, and work toward lasting well-being—all while staying connected to their daily lives.
Curated groups
By bringing LGBTQIA+ clients together in affirming, supportive groups, we create a space where they can connect, share experiences, and heal. These specialized groups foster belonging, resilience, and self-acceptance, helping clients navigate mental health challenges while building meaningful connections for long-term well-being.
Individual therapy
Personalized, affirming support is central to the IOP model, which is why each LGBTQIA+ client is paired with a primary therapist who specializes in LGBTQIA+ mental health for weekly one-on-one sessions tailored to their unique experiences and needs.
Family therapy
A leading predictor of success in treatment is family involvement. Our virtual IOP’s family therapy component teaches communication and coping skills to manage family relationship issues and create a more supportive home environment for clients both during and after treatment.
We also offer dozens of free family support groups for family members and loved ones of clients enrolled in our program. Learn more here.

What are the benefits of a virtual IOP for LGBTQIA+ individuals?
1) The program can treat multiple conditions.
Virtual IOP can effectively address a variety of mental health concerns, including LGBTQIA+-related conditions and co-occurring conditions (defined as situations where people experience two or more mental health conditions at the same time).
At Charlie Health, we specialize in treating trauma, plus:
- Anxiety disorders
- Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Depression
- Dissociative disorders
- Gender dysphoria
- Mood disorders (bipolar disorder, etc.)
- Neurodivergence
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
- Personality disorders
- Postpartum depression
- Substance use disorders
- Suicidal ideation & self-harm
- Traumatic brain injuries
- And more
2) The program uses a variety of treatment modalities.
Virtual IOP for LGBTQIA+ clients uses a variety of treatment modalities in group, individual, and family sessions, ensuring that clients receive the best evidence-based care available. At Charlie Health, we offer:
- Attachment-based family therapy
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Compassion-focused therapy (CFT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills
- Experiential therapy
- Exposure therapy
- Mindfulness-based therapy
- Motivational interviewing
- And more
3) The power of group connection.
Traditional weekly therapy is typically conducted one-on-one. The basis of virtual IOP for LGBTQIA+ clients, however, is group sessions, allowing clients to heal together, build connections with others who understand their lived experiences, and practice skills in real time. Centering treatment in group support means clients can learn not only from the therapist but also from the experiences and insights shared by their fellow group members, fostering a sense of belonging and validation.
4) Flexible and accessible.
Virtual IOP for LGBTQIA+ clients allows them to continue with daily life, like work or school. With flexible scheduling, including options at night and on the weekend, people don’t have to put life on pause to get the mental health treatment they need.
How do I know if Charlie Health’s virtual IOP is right for my LGBTQIA+ client?
Charlie Health may be a good fit for:
- Clients who would benefit from a step-up treatment solution and are currently attending weekly outpatient therapy but still seriously struggling with their mental health.
- Clients who would benefit from a step-down treatment solution and need ongoing support following discharge from an ER, residential treatment program, or inpatient treatment facility.
If you have a client or patient who you think would benefit from Charlie Health, use our quick & easy referral form to get them started with treatment in as little as 24 hours.
