Personalized virtual care for eating disorders

Comprehensive eating disorder treatment offering therapy, group support, and nutrition counseling from home

Personalized group sessions

Clients are matched with peers navigating similar experiences to foster safety, accountability, and authentic connection. Our eating disorder-specific groups focus on topics like body image, emotion regulation, identity, and coping skills, creating a supportive environment for meaningful progress.

Individual therapy

One-on-one support is critical to the IOP model. Each client receives weekly sessions with a Primary Therapist who specializes in eating disorder treatment, providing personalized care that addresses both emotional and behavioral healing.

Family therapy

Family involvement plays a key role in eating disorder recovery. Our virtual IOP includes weekly family therapy sessions designed to strengthen communication, build coping skills, and foster a supportive home environment. We also offer free family support groups to extend healing beyond the individual client.

Nutrition counseling

Nutrition counseling is an essential component of our virtual IOP. Clients with a primary eating disorder diagnosis meet weekly with a registered dietitian who provides individualized support around food fears, meal planning, and building a flexible, sustainable approach to nutrition. Our nutrition services are grounded in weight-neutral, evidence-based care that supports both medical stability and emotional well-being.

FAQs about eating disorder treatment at Charlie Health

How does virtual eating disorder treatment work at Charlie Health?

Charlie Health’s virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides personalized, evidence-based care for clients navigating eating disorders—including both primary eating disorders and co-occurring diagnoses.

All clients with a co-occurring eating disorder diagnosis receive:

  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Curated eating disorder recovery groups
  • Psychiatry, as needed

All clients with a primary eating disorder diagnosis can also receive:

  • Nutrition counseling as a core component of their treatment plan

In addition to the core treatment model, clients have access to 24/7 crisis support, 20+ free family support groups, peer mentors, alumni programming, and more.

Our multidisciplinary care team works collaboratively to address the emotional, behavioral, and nutritional needs of each client. If you have a client who could benefit from Charlie Health’s eating disorder treatment, visit referrals.charliehealth.com/referral-form to submit a referral.

How do I know if Charlie Health’s virtual IOP is right for my client?

Charlie Health’s virtual IOP is an appropriate level of care for clients who need more structure than weekly outpatient therapy provides or who are stepping down from higher levels of care (e.g., inpatient, residential treatment).

Our program is designed for clients who are medically stable but require intensive, coordinated support to manage their eating disorder and progress toward recovery. We provide care for individuals navigating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, OSFED, and other eating disorder challenges—including those with co-occurring mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and OCD.

While typical outpatient treatment involves one therapy session per week, Charlie Health’s virtual IOP offers multiple hours of treatment per week, including three group sessions, one individual therapy session, one family therapy session, and access to psychiatric services for all clients. Nutrition counseling is available as an integrated part of treatment for clients with a primary eating disorder diagnosis. Each treatment plan is personalized to address the unique clinical, emotional, and nutritional needs of the client.

What is nutrition counseling, and how does it work at Charlie Health?

Nutrition counseling is a core component of Charlie Health’s virtual treatment for clients with a primary eating disorder diagnosis. These clients meet weekly with a registered dietitian to receive individualized guidance on nutrition, meal planning, food fears, and building a sustainable relationship with food.

Our dietitians use a weight-neutral, evidence-based approach, working closely with the clinical team to align nutritional goals with therapeutic progress. Nutrition counseling can be adjusted as needed to support recovery.

Can clients with co-occurring mental health conditions participate in the program?

Yes. Our virtual IOP is designed to support clients with eating disorders as well as co-occurring mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and others. Treatment plans are tailored to address the emotional, behavioral, and psychological complexities of each client’s needs through integrated care.

How do you monitor progress in a virtual environment?

We continuously track each client’s progress using validated clinical assessments, behavioral goals, and care team collaboration. Treatment plans are regularly reviewed and adapted based on each client’s engagement, symptom improvement, and recovery milestones. For clients in our primary eating disorder track, we incorporate nutrition monitoring, lab work, and blind weight checks as appropriate to ensure medical stability.
