Personalized virtual care for substance use disorders

Charlie Health provides addiction therapy and medication-assisted treatment from home

Personalized group sessions

By bringing together clients of similar ages who are experiencing similar substance use issues, we’re able to create group environments where people can learn how to build connections and foster long-term healing.

Individual therapy

One-on-one connections are critical to the IOP model, which is why each client’s recovery plan includes weekly sessions with a primary therapist skilled in treating substance use disorders.

Family therapy

A leading predictor of success in IOP is family involvement. Our virtual IOP’s family therapy component teaches communication and coping skills to manage family relationship issues and create a more supportive and affirming home environment both during and after substance abuse recovery.

We also offer dozens of free family support groups for family members and loved ones of clients enrolled in our program. Learn more here.

Charlie Health’s compassionate approach to SUD treatment

Charlie Health’s Clinical Team meets clients exactly where they are on their unique journeys to recovery from substance use disorders.

With a focus on creating personalized treatment plans, we ensure each client gets the specialized care they deserve.

We believe that building connections is key to effective treatment, helping to combat the isolation and shame often tied to substance use disorders. By fostering a culture of honesty and recognizing the good intentions of our clients, we aim to ease these difficult emotions. We see substance use as a symptom, not a disease, and through the simple yet powerful words “Me too,” we offer a path toward healing.

Our unique approach to SUD treatment

Virtual Naltrexone & Suboxone management

In-network with insurance

Substance use disorder recovery groups

Immediate availability

Flexible scheduling, including nights & weekends

More than 90% of SUD clients see improvements in their most severe mental health symptoms

Suboxone

Suboxone (sometimes referred to as buprenorphine and naloxone) can be used for opioid use disorder recovery. Suboxone itself is an opioid but produces weak opioid effects. This allows it to reduce withdrawal symptoms without producing the actual effect of an opioid.

At Charlie Health, we limit Suboxone prescriptions to oral versions.

Naltrexone

Naltrexone is a medication used to support recovery from alcohol use disorder or opioid use disorder. It works by reducing cravings and psychological dependence on substances, helping clients maintain their progress in recovery.

At Charlie Health, we exclusively prescribe the pill form of Naltrexone, not the injectable version (commonly known as Vivitrol). For clients using Naltrexone for opioid use disorder, it is essential to be off opioids for at least three days before starting treatment.

FAQs about substance use disorder treatment at Charlie Health

How does virtual medication-assisted treatment (MAT) work at Charlie Health?

Virtual MAT at Charlie Health is designed to help clients with substance use disorders (SUD) by combining FDA-approved medications with our hallmark virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Each MAT treatment plan consists of 9-12 hours per week of:

  • Curated SUD groups
  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Psychiatry

In addition to our standard treatment model, all clients have access to 24/7 crisis care, 20+ free family support groups, peer mentors, Alumni Programming, and more.

We design each MAT treatment plan with one primary goal in mind: helping clients heal from SUDs and rediscover hope. If you have a client who could benefit from Charlie Health, visit referrals.charliehealth.com/referrals to fill out our quick and easy online referral form.

How do I know if Charlie Health’s virtual IOP with MAT is right for my client?

Our virtual MAT program and virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is an appropriate level of care for clients who need more than once-weekly therapy and medication to cope with SUD and other serious mental health conditions. Many of our clients have either recently discharged from a higher level of care (e.g., residential, inpatient, emergency room, detox program) or are seeking more support than traditional weekly talk therapy (outpatient). Our program offers both initiation and maintenance of FDA-approved prescriptions to treat SUD. The program combines these medications with therapy to address cravings and withdrawal symptoms while supporting overall recovery.

While typical outpatient treatment involves one therapy session per week, our virtual IOP with MAT offers multiple hours of treatment per week. At Charlie Health, each client receives a customized treatment plan that includes three group sessions per week, one individual therapy session per week, and one family therapy session per week. Our MAT program also includes weekly psychiatry meetings to receive needed medication and review drug screens.
